Otoplasty

What is Otoplasty and Why Consider It?

Otoplasty, or ear pinning is a cosmetic procedure that involves surgically reshaping the outer ear (or pinna). It is most commonly performed to correct ears that are protruding.

The main reason to consider otoplasty is to help you regain confidence in your appearance. Both children and adults would benefit from having otoplasty as it can help anyone who may be self-conscious about the size or shape of their ears.

The Procedure

The operation for otoplasty usually takes about an hour and is performed under a local anaesthetic in adults and general anaesthesia in children. The procedure involves making a small cut at the back of your ear in order to access the ear cartilage. This will then be closed with dissolvable sutures.

Recovery

You will normally be able to go home the same day as your otoplasty procedure. You will need to wear a head bandage for a few days after surgery. You will need to wear a head band after the bandage is removed. Usually, you can return to work after a week, but will need to avoid any contact sports for a few months.

You can rest assured that you will have Dr Khalid Ali's full support throughout your recovery period. He will be able to advise you when you can return to exercise and at what intensity.

Blepharoplasty

What is Blepharoplasty and Why Consider It?

Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid surgery, is an operation to reshape the eyelids.

With age, our muscles relax and the skin loses its elasticity. This results in folds in the upper lids and deepening creases in the lower lids. This also allows the fat which cushions the eyes in their sockets to bulge forwards to give the appearance of bagginess.

The ageing process can also cause drooping of the eyelids, and folds of skin to gather in the upper eyelids. Sometimes there is so much skin that the upper lids hang over the eyelashes.

The Procedure

Eyelid reductions can be carried out under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic. In a typical procedure, the surgeon makes cuts that follow the natural lines of your eyelids in the creases of the upper lids and just below the lashes in the lower lids These cuts are extended a little way into the crow's feet (also known as laughter lines) at the corner of the eyes.

The Results

An upper-eyelid reduction can improve your vision and make you look younger. A lower-eyelid reduction can help to reduce wrinkles and puffiness.

Facial Aesthetics Treatments

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are a cosmetic treatment that will help you reduce the visible signs of ageing and enhance your facial features. Dermal fillers can also be used to add definition to certain features of your face, like your cheekbones, or fullness to your lips. They are derived from hyaluronic acid, a substance that stores moisture and is naturally found in your skin.

Fillers are used to treat a range of issues associated with ageing such as thinning skin, folds and wrinkles. The fillers create more volume by replacing fat loss in the affected areas. This can be used in:

  • Lip Augmentation
  • Smile Lines / Nasolabial Folds
  • Lip Lines
  • Marionette Lines
  • Cheek enhancement
  • Tear Trough
  • Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Depending on the area being treated and your requirements, you will usually need to come in for a treatment every 6 to 12 months. Dr Ali is fully qualified consultant surgeon who has helped many patients enhance their facial appearance.

The Procedure

This cosmetic treatment only takes 20 to 30 minutes. It should not be painful and an anaesthetic cream can be used to numb your skin.

The Results

Once dermal fillers are injected, they attract water molecules and hydrate the surrounding tissue of the skin. In turn, volume is restored to your skin, making it look plumper, more radiant and smoother. You should see noticeable results in just few days which will last between 6 to 12 months.

If you have any further questions about dermal fillers, contact us at Rhinoplasty Manchester to arrange a consultation with Dr Khalid Ali.

Botox

Botox is a neurotoxic protein produced by a bacterium known as clostridium botulinum. This protein prevents the release of a substance called, Acetylcholine, from nerve endings at the junction between nerves and muscles. The result is muscle paralysis.

Wherever Botox is injected it will prevent the muscle from contracting. This, in turn, prevents the formation of wrinkles.

Once treated, you should notice effects after 2 to 3 days. However, it will take up to 2 weeks for the full effect. You will still be able to frown and smile, but you will appear less wrinkled and look much fresher.

The Procedure

After your face is cleaned, botulinum toxin will be injected into the muscles in your face using a very fine needle. The procedure only takes about 10 minutes.

The Results

After Botox, wrinkles look far less prominent. The results should appear within a few days, but it usually takes 2 to 3 weeks to see the full effect. This effect will last for about 6 to 9 months.

If you're thinking about getting Botox, but aren't sure whether it is the right option for you, why not contact Rhinoplasty Manchester to discuss the best treatment plan with Dr Khalid Ali.

Mole Removal

Mole removal is a minor surgical procedure that is performed for a variety of reasons. It might be performed for cosmetic reasons, or because the mole is in an irritating location. You may also need removal if the mole is cancerous.

The Procedure

After cleansing the area that needs to be treated, the area will be numbed with anaesthetic. It will then be removed either with or without stitches, depending on the depth of the mole itself and the cosmetic outcome desired.

The Results

Following mole removal, healing time varies from just a few days, to a few weeks. Usually, mole removal leaves some kind of scar, but the size depends on the type of the procedure undertaken. Dr Ali will have a detailed discussion with you before the procedure, to ensure that the results are in line with your expectations.
